Top 5 Things to Do in Hawaii
Hawaii is one of the most popular and beautiful vacation destinations in the world. It’s full of gorgeous landscapes, spectacular ocean views, and thrilling activities. There are endless activities to do in Hawaii but we’ve narrowed down our choices… Here are our picks for the Top 5 things to do in Hawaii.
5 » Take Part in a Lu’au
Head to the West side of Maui to the Old Lahaina Luau for a classic Hawaiian experience. Be greeted with a Mai Tai, a fresh flower lei, and a smile. There’s traditional live music and opportunities to learn Hawaiian culture.
Set right on the coast with a beautiful sunset view, it includes classic Hawaiian cuisine such as a whole pig, or Kalua, being cooked in an Imu, a type of underground oven. We recommend getting a spot around the Imu early. Everyone gathers for a closer look as the hardwood, stones, and vegetation used to cook in the ceremony are removed and the meal is revealed.
Head back to your table to indulge and end the night off with a Traditional Hawaiian show full of dance, dress, and storytelling. Opening in 1986, The Old Lahaina Lu’au is the oldest Luau on Maui.
4 » Go Cliff Jumping
Head to Black Rock on the North end of Kaanapali beach on Maui, a popular spot for cliff-jumping. You’ll swim about 40 yards out to the lava rock from the beach before you make the steep climb up to the 15 ft drop. This spot is perfect for beginners. Whether you’re making the jump, or you’re just an observer, cliff jumping is a thrilling adventure for anyone in Hawaii. Make sure to catch the nightly torch lighting and cliff dive ceremony here. Come before sunset to enjoy live music and hula.
3 » Visit Kualoa Ranch
Located on the Windward coast of Oahu you’ll find Kualoa Ranch, a private nature reserve. Established in 1850, Kualoa is a 4,000-acre property and is also a working cattle ranch.
This phenomenal property hosts a variety of tours. You can go on Movie & Television site tours highlighting classics like Jurassic Park & Lost. You can journey over to the Secret Island Beach on a smooth catamaran ride where you can explore the jungle and the incredible coastal views. Or you can pick one of the ATV tours that take you up and down the trails throughout this stunning property, with stops along the way to take in the unforgettable views.
2 » Go Shark Cage Diving
Head to the north shore of Oahu to Hawaii Shark Encounters for an unforgettable underwater experience. You’ll learn about sharks’ importance in the ocean’s ecosystem on the 15-minute ride out into the Pacific. Then brave the cage with your group to get up close and personal with Galapagos, Sandbar and Tiger sharks. We’re talking inches away!
Watch as they glide through the water and see for yourself how beautiful and graceful sharks really are. While enjoying the encounter, you’ll learn in-depth information about shark biology, ecology, and behavior. It’s clear to see how this unforgettable encounter needs to be included on your list of things to do in Hawaii!
