Checking in: The Royal Playa del Carmen Review
Sipping on a mojito in the pool while aimlessly floating around is a wonderful way to spend a day in paradise. But The Royal Playa del Carmen is so much more than that. The lobby is enough to take your breath away with its intricate architecture and airy atmosphere. We filled our days with coffee & tequila tastings, swimming in the Olympic size pool, scuba diving lessons, romantic dinners and the most spiritual spa experience we’ve ever seen at a resort. The complimentary access to the hydrotherapy area of SPAzul Health & Wellness Center is something you need to take advantage of!
We could tell you more about The Royal but what we’d really love to do is show you. Watch the video below to see our experience!
And if you like this video don’t hesitate to check out some other resorts we’ve visited like Hyatt Ziva Puerto Vallarta and Hyatt Ziva Cancun.

The Room
Our room had grand archways and elegant pillars that gave it such a romantic mood. That was further enhanced by the two-person jet tub with aromatherapy menu we got to enjoy. Falling asleep on the balcony hammock was a frequent favorite between us; especially after indulging in room service and the mini bar. Having full bottles of four different types of alcohol to choose from was a new experience for us and basically allows you to never leave your room if that’s what you like!
Activities
There were so many options on what to do each day, from a bike ride in town to dancing lessons by the pool. Being only steps away from the famous 5th Ave. and a short walk to the Cozumel ferry, you have your choice of activities & restaurants to indulge in off the property too.
There were more than a few things that made this resort stand apart from the rest. The shows are incredible and are held in the middle of the open-air lobby. The seating surrounds the stage so everyone gets a perfect view of the action, a really thoughtful aspect. One of our fondest memories during our stay was a romantic dinner under the stars. With a live band playing sweet serenades, a beautiful woman passionately dancing, first class service and the addition of fondue, the night couldn’t have been more perfect.
